PR is not just the “glamour” of the event

When I got introduced to this working integrated learning industry, that was a month ago (18 April 2013), the first thing I expected to do as my first task in the industry was to plan an event. In my mind a successful event was that of a glamour feature. Eventually I got to attend events like the UJ Alumni workshop and there was nothing fancy, just simple, elegant and very informative, because otherwise what is the use if we have such a glamorous event with perfect catering, guest speakers well dressed, music on point, but no objective was met after the event, meaning the message we were trying to communicate was not communicated or somehow the audiences had too much dancing than listening to the main speaker?

Public Relations is not just about the glamour of the event, like most of the people who perceive it as the glamorous of the event but rather I call it a “fruit basket”. To me it is a basket that has different fruits in it; it happened that events are one of the fruit inside the basket. It is to be highly noted down to every PR student, lecturer, manager, director or practioner, that when they are going to PR Shopping they should have every necessary PR fruit in their PR fruit basket. Media coverage/monitoring ,writing skills, presentation skills outspoken, strategic meetings, research skills, photography, integrated communication, you name them .These are some of the fruits you must have in your basket when you leave your shopping centre. It does not matter which supermarket did you get each single fruit, the question is; is that supermarket credible enough to you?

REALITY CHECK

SALARIES ON THE BOTTOM OF THE SLOPE

Picture:different prices represented by animals
accessed from:https://www.facebook.com/wonderworldfunny
It is funny how these daily needs prices keeps on going high, within days, hours, minutes or seconds and yet you will not find salaries increasing at least once a month.

The more petrol price increases the more statistics of unemployment we have here in South Africa. The International Labour Organisation (IOL) projects a global youth unemployment rate of 12, 7% by 2017.

According to the ILO, of the 202 million people unemployed globally, 40% are under the age of 24.South Africa’s prices are even worse. Statistics South Africa’s figures for the third quarter of 2012 show 71% of the unemployed are aged 25-34 and the unemployment rate among youth is 36%.

About 3,3million youth aged 15-34 are not employed or studying (read more...).This is a serious situation where by Government Founding like NYDA, should bring their hand to pull every single youth who has the potential or ability to start their own Organisation, regardless  of whether their organization are on start up position or what.

The best checklist should be the best business plan, with objectives. Lets all contribute in helping our country to eradicate youth unemployment rate.

Become A good Leader

How can you become a good leader?

Tiisetso M a PR Inter at ABZ
 and DR Molapo at
the UJ Alumni workshop
Their so many experienced people in this world, but there is few who can lead. How can one explain a leader, is because the quality of education or the features of the body no. A leader in made not born. Being a leader comes with responsibility. It is not an overnight thing. You must be prepared to meet challenges and conquered them.
According to Dr David Molapo of National Institute for Crime Prevention and Rehabilitation of Offenders’ PEOPLE  in South Africa said” A leader is someone who can impact not impress”. He was the guest speaker of the UJ Alumni workshop last week Tuesday. The ABZ was present as usual, because they are the UJ Alumni’s affinity group. They will be there ones organising Alumni's events in future.

Until next time, stay focus, By Tiisetso M
