National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa) Irvin Jim speaks to the media about the suspension of Vavi. TimesLive |
The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa is to challenge the suspension of Zwelinzima Vavi in court. This clearly says that it was not in the Congress of South African Trade Unions’s (COSATU) to discipline Vavi.
After listening to the news and reading different publications it made sense to me that the suspended Cosatu secretary-general offended the congress. What had to be done, had to be done! This is not about who is against who but, about doing the right thing for this country to progress or for the Trade Union particularly.
It is amazing that Numsa and other Cosatu affiliates are challenging the decision made. The reason Numsa is against the suspension is because, they believe there is an agenda to drive-out Vavi since February 2013. Although, the suspension was called by the people in February, they had to follow a protocol to protect the image of the Trade Union.
Has Numsa lost the true meaning of justice and truth? I think that Numsa has lost the meaning utterly. What the suspended Cosatu secretary general did was not in line with what Cosatu stands for. This country has a lot of challenges and certainly do not need leaders who will derail us.
